I Want to Be the Best Dad I Can Be

I commit to being the best dad I can be. I will never be perfect, I will make oh so many mistakes, but let me tell you, I'm committed to giving it my all.

I Want to Be the Best Dad I Can Be

When I decided I wanted to become a father, I made a commitment to being the best dad I could be. That commitment strengthened when I found out it was going to happen, and became even stronger when I heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time.

Learning that you're going to become a father can be overwhelming. Well not can be, it is overwhelming. That's okay. That overwhelm means you care.

Out of this innate desire to become the best dad I can be came the question: How?

Where I landed was that one thing was important above all:

My commitment.

My commitment to being the best dad I can be, my commitment to my daughter.

Long before I picked up my first baby or parenting book, I spent time thinking through what being the best dad possible meant to me.

I will never be perfect, I will make oh so many mistakes, but let me tell you, I'm committed to giving it my all.

If you're a new parent, congratulations! Again, let that feeling of overwhelm and the fact that you made it here remind you of what is obvious to me: you care. Your care, commitment, and love will be all that's needed to be the best parent possible while you raise a flourishing child.

I'm excited for you.

Before we part, here are a few questions you can reflect on to think about your commitment:

  • What does being the best dad possible mean to me?
  • What do I have to work on to ensure I have the self-trust to show up as that version of me?
  • What actions will I take between now and when I meet my baby to deepen my commitment to being the best dad I can be?
